POCHAIV MONASTERY
The largest Orthodox Shrine in Volyn the second largest in Ukraine after Kyiv Cave Monastery. According to the legend, it was founded by the Kyiv monks fleeing the Tartar invasion of 1240. The Monastery inself was first mentioned in the chronicles of 1527. The central church in the Monastery complex, The Dormition Cathedral, was constructed in 1771-1783.
The Pochaivska Lavra is one of the most celebrated piligrimage sites in Ukraine. Among its many relics are the foot imprint of the Mother of God, healing water, and the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin.

 

ZHOVKVA MONASTERY
Zhovkva is an old town-reserve, a fortress and after Lviv has the largest number of architectural monuments in the region. Highlights include the ancient Castle of XVII-XVIII c. Market Square, perish church, Basilian Monastery, Church of the Nativity, and the 17 c. Synagogue.

   

KREKHIV MONASTERY
Krekhiv is a village in the Zhovkva district, situated about 50-km from Lviv, known for its active and completely restored 17-18 c. Basilian Monastery.

   
 

OLESKY CASTLE
T
he Castle is a historical architectural strucure dating from the 13-18 c. The Polish king Jan Sobiesky III was born here in 1629. During his litetime he amassed a large collection of art works. After the 1975 restoration a museum was established and Castle now serves as an exhibition site for the Lviv Art Gallery. The museum boasts of five hundred paintings, sculptures and works of applied art from the 10-18 c.
